Prestigious Daily Point of Light Award Honors Sleep Train Foster Kids Program
Company receives nationwide recognition for raising awareness and support for the plight of foster children.

SEATTLE, WA, May 23, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Today, Sleep Train, the number one mattress store on the West Coast, is honored to announce it has received nationwide recognition for its Sleep Train Foster Kids Program from the Points of Light Institute, a national organization founded in 1989 under President George Bush to recognize people changing the world through service. Sleep Train is the recipient of the institute's May 23rd, 2011 Daily Point of Light Award, honoring individuals and volunteer groups who are helping to meet critical needs in their communities and creating change every day.

In 2008, Sleep Train created the Sleep Train Foster Kids Program to focus its charitable efforts on providing support to regional organizations that assist the more than 60,000 foster children living in foster care in California. Through advertising and public relations awareness, the collection and distribution of important material items like clothing, shoes, pajamas, school supplies, gifts, and cash donations, Sleep Train's Foster Kids Program has successfully delivered hundreds of thousands of items and more than $700,000 in cash to these organizations

"We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award for our efforts to improve the lives of foster children in our area," said Dale Carlsen, CEO of Sleep Train. "Thanks to overwhelming support from our employees, vendors and community members, Sleep Train strives to strengthen the voice of foster children and their families, and increase the assistance provided by our non-profit foster organization partners. With over 30,000 children entering foster care each year, we recognize that keeping up with their needs can be an overwhelming mission, and that while not everyone can be a foster parent, anyone can help a foster child."

Sleep Train continues to raise awareness and support for the plight of foster children, and is currently collecting clothing for kids of all sizes and ages through July 10th at all of their locations, as well as cash donations online at www.sleeptrain.com.
